Guess who this is

by Sandra

One of the best party games I have ever played was at an anniversary party.

All of the guest were asked to bring a photo of themselves as a baby. The photos were then arranged on a board and we were each given a sheet of paper and a pencil and asked to try to identify who the babies were.

Some were really, really easy. They were members of my family and photos that I'd seen dozens of times before. Others were simple because the "babies" now had babies and children of their own. One man was so incredibly like his son that it was dead simple to pick out who it was.

Then the were the family photos. Some were pictures taken with grandparents. If you knew the grandparent then that was pretty straightforward too. Having an adult in the photo made the game easier in some cases but not necessarily so.

If you are planning a game like this it's best to ask for pictures with no other people in them, otherwise it makes it too easy for people to guess who is who.

This is a pretty good icebreaker game. Some of the guests stood in front of the board for ages chatting to other guests about the photos and reminiscing about the "old days". There were some very interesting conversations about family occupations, memorable events and other parties in the past.

If you want to make it more competitive you could consider offering a prize to the person with the most correct guesses. Another way would be to have a timed session. At the party I went to the photos were there and available from the time we arrived until just before we left, so there was plenty of time to think about who was in the pictures and to discuss with others. Setting a time limit would make it a lot more challenging.
